Psychiatric consultations provided in collaboration with Breakthrough Counselling & Psychotherapy Services

A psychiatric consultation offers an opportunity to gain clarity about your mental health and explore treatment options that may support your overall well‑being. Through the Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Collaboration (PMVC), consultations are completed virtually and involve collaboration between your therapist, family physician or nurse practitioner, and a psychiatrist. The consultation focuses on understanding your symptoms, mental health history, and current concerns. Recommendations may include a diagnosis, medication options, or treatment planning, which are shared with your primary care provider for ongoing follow‑up. This collaborative approach ensures your care is thoughtful, coordinated, and aligned with your therapy goals.

Psychiatric assessment, diagnosis clarification & medication support alongside therapy

People often seek a psychiatric consultation when they want a clearer understanding of their mental health or additional support alongside therapy. This service can help bring clarity to symptoms, confirm or rule out diagnoses, and explore whether medication may be a helpful part of treatment. Psychiatric consultations are offered in collaboration with psychotherapy to support your overall well‑being.

Through this service, you can expect:

  • Access to psychiatric consultations
  • Collaborative, team‑based care involving your therapist and primary care provider
  • Convenient virtual appointments through secure OTN video conferencing, either from my office or from home
  • OHIP‑covered general psychiatric services
  • Fee‑for‑service specialized assessments, including ADHD, ASD, and combined ADHD/ASD evaluations

This approach ensures thoughtful, coordinated, and compassionate care tailored to your needs.

Virtual psychiatric consultations delivered through a collaborative care model

During a psychiatric consultation, you, your therapist, and a psychiatrist will meet together to better understand your mental health needs. The psychiatrist will take time to learn about your concerns, symptoms, medical and mental health history, and how things are affecting your daily life. You’ll have space to ask questions and share your goals. Together, you’ll discuss possible recommendations, which may include psychotherapy, medication options, lifestyle changes, or additional support. A summary and recommendations are then shared with your referring physician or nurse practitioner. By the end of the session, you’ll have greater clarity and a clearer sense of next steps for your care.
